Federal updates: Student visa policy reversed, President Cudd signs letter denouncing government overreach in higher ed |
The Federal Administration has reversed its recent decision to terminate the student visa registrations of thousands of international students — including the visa eligibility of two current PSU students and one recent graduate whose visas were terminated on April 10.
And PSU President Ann Cudd joined university presidents nationwide in signing an American Association of Colleges and Universities letter denouncing the Federal Administration's unprecedented government overreach and political interference in higher education.

PSU-AAUP members approve new contract |
Members of the PSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (PSU-AAUP) voted overwhelmingly (96%) to ratify a new contract with the university. The contract provides competitive wages, enhanced job security, professional development support and measures to enhance faculty well-being. The University and PSU-AAUP are actively engaged in assembling the new contract document and preparing to implement the newly agreed terms of the contract.

Coming soon: Campus Climate Survey for employees |
Starting May 12, all faculty and staff will be invited to take Portland State’s Campus Climate Survey, conducted by Viewfinder, a trusted third-party research firm. The survey is part of PSU’s ongoing work to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees. This institution-wide survey will ask about your experiences with respect, belonging, workplace culture and institutional support. It’s anonymous, takes about 15 minutes, and supports Imperative #3 of PSU’s Future in Focus strategic plan: Support and Empower our Employees and Operations.

Fluid mechanics impacts a wide range of natural and human-made systems, so understanding the specifics of these phenomena can lead to a broad range of applications. Join PSU's 2025 Presidential Career Research Award winner and internationally renowned MCECS Professor Raúl Bayoán Cal for this 45-minute talk exploring fluid mechanics at work, from wind and solar energy farms to a water droplet in outer space.

PSU and OHSU are offering joint mentorship training this spring to support mentor development through frameworks, tools, and peer learning.
Spring Entering Mentoring Training
Fridays, May 9 & 16, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Fully in-person sessions; full participation is encouraged. Make-up options are available for missed modules. Open to faculty, staff, postdocs, and students engaged in long-term mentoring. This training strengthens skills to support mentees and grow as a mentor.
