On View at the Art Gallery: The Unrefined Line: CoBrA's Rebellion in the Collection |
In 1948, a group of young European artists formed CoBrA, named for their cities of Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Inspired by children’s drawings, folk art and Nordic myths, CoBrA artists drew from sources unshaped by tradition. Their work was primal and inventive — it captured both the innocence of imagination and the frenzied energy of a post-war world.
In The Unrefined Line we take a closer look at a selection of the 80 plus CoBrA artworks in the Villanova University Art Collection. We ask how this wild and short-lived art movement made its way into our collection, and why its legacy still resonates today.
Join us for an opening reception on September 18th from 4-6PM in the Art Gallery at Villanova University, located on the second floor of the Connelly Center.
For more information, please visit the Villanova University Art Gallery.
