As of July 20, UWM has made the decision of which classes will be delivered in an online or hybrid format. You can see how your classes will be formatted in your PAWS account. The Neighborhood Housing Office recommends living near UWM only if you will have some in-person classes this Fall.

Helping You Find Your Off Campus Rental

Welcome to the fourth edition of finding your off campus home! You can expect to receive the next steps of the rental process on Wednesday, July 29.
This week, focus on moving into your off-campus rental once you have successfully signed your lease. Make sure to have your lease looked over by the University Legal Clinic prior to signing it.
In this newsletter you will find:

Check In Sheet

On your move-in day, record any existing damages prior to moving in any of your belongings on your check in sheet to avoid losing a portion of your security deposit later on.
The landlord is required by law to give you a check in sheet upon move in. You will have seven days after you move in to complete the check in sheet.
Taking pictures and videos of any damages will help to support what is documented on your check in sheet.

Roommate Contacts

Living with roommates can present unique situations, which is why it is important to lay down agreed upon ground rules as soon as possible.
The Neighborhood Housing Office recommends creating a roommate contract that will help to outline the responsibilities of you and your roommates. This may help to avoid disputes later on.
Roommate contacts are legally binding contracts between resisdents.

Security Deposits

You should have paid your security deposit prior to moving into your rental unit. The money paid for your security deposit is used to cover any damages caused by you and your roommates. To ensure you get the entirety of your security deposit returned to you, take proper care of your rental unit.
