Free 2 Teach has contributed over $14 million in supplies and resources to schools throughout Madison County. Their free store serves as a vital resource for thousands of teachers, offering supplies, materials, lesson plans, furniture, STEM kits and more. This initiative plays a crucial role in enhancing educational opportunities for local students and teachers alike.
See How They Run
The two-day Southern Showcase cross-country meet at John Hunt Park brought more than 150 teams and 5,000-plus runners to Huntsville on Sept. 13-14. Council Member Little, whose son competes for Huntsville High School, was one of the parents who volunteered to work the finish line.
Bankhead Parkway Safety
Council Member Little has been working with the City’s Traffic Engineering Department on improving safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on Bankhead Parkway. After a traffic assessment, it was determined that new signage, wider striping in critical areas and additional pavement markers to enhance reflectivity would increase driver awareness and reduce speeding-related accidents at several locations. Installation of these items will begin once they have been procured.
Retailer of the Year
The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber recently recognized the Church Street Family Restaurant & Hospitality Group as the Alabama Retail Association's Retailer of the Year. Council Member Little was on hand for the festivities and to congratulate Church Street owners Stephanie and Matthew Mell. The group operates several establishments in Huntsville, including Purveyor, Mazzara's, Catacomb 435 and Pourhouse.
