OBGE Professional Development Award
OBGE Professional Development Awards are designed to support professional development for biomedical PhD trainees who have shown an interest in engaging in OBGE’s mission to develop student’s full potential as independent scientists. The award provides reimbursement or travel advance for activities that directly enhance the recipient’s professional growth, including, but not limited to conference registration and travel and workshop attendance.
Awards are open to full-time biomedical PhD students in any School of Medicine or Interdisciplinary PhD program. To be considered, applicants must have successfully completed the preliminary exam prior to submitting an application and have engaged in one of the optional OBGE BIOTRAIN courses or O2 series programs. Each recipient will receive an award of up to $1000.

Internship Preparation
If you are considering a summer internship, plan to enroll in BIOTRAIN 898: Gateway to Internship and Experiential Learning. This internship preparation course will serve as a companion course to BIOTRAIN 899 Internship and Experiential Learning to begin the process of allowing Biomedical PhD students to explore specializations and career paths outside academia and prepare them to make more informed career path decisions. The course will encourage students to plan a practical path for pursuing a career outside of academia, address benefits and challenges of participating in an internship during the PhD, and provide tools and skills to navigate the process of finding and successfully completing an internship as part of the PhD course of study.
Course Availability: Last six weeks of Fall and Spring semesters
Course Credit: 1 Semester Hour

Summer is a great time to prepare! Kick off with the virtual Beyond the Professoriate Online Career Conference for Ph.D.s, a series of webinars that will walk you through résumé preparation, networking and LinkedIn strategy, and career-building skills. If you’re on campus, make use of the Professional Development Progress Lunches to ask questions and get feedback from your colleagues and me. Then, check out a variety of virtual professional development events coming up throughout the summer to continue making headway.

NIH Well-Being Resources
The goal of the NIH OITE Mental Health & Wellbeing of Biomedical Researchers Series is to have an open and honest dialogue focused on mental health and well-being to decrease stigma and explore new tools to support ourselves and others in the biomedical research community. The series is open to all trainees, fellows, and staff at NIH and elsewhere who wish to join this important conversation. The 2024 series comprises four webinars followed by Q&A sessions. The final webinar is in June:
