Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
I wanted to alert you to two Fulbright items. First, the new round of Fulbright opportunities was announced this week:
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers over 400 unique awards for U.S. citizens to teach, research, and conduct professional projects in more than 130 countries. In the current competition, there are 45 awards in Public Policy, in addition to the Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship, a unique opportunity to work as a technical specialist in a foreign government ministry or institution.
The application deadline is September 15, 2023. Visit fulbrightscholars.org and join one of their upcoming webinars to learn more. Seton Hall Faculty can reach out to Dr. James Kimble, Professor of Communication, for advice and inquiries about any aspect of the Fulbright Award programs. We strongly encourage faculty to apply to this great opportunity!

Secondly, the Department of History and the Italian Studies Program are proud to host a Fulbright scholar from Italy this semester, Claudio Staiti. Staiti hails from Messina and he is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of San Marino. His research focuses on the relations between Italy and the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His publications include two important books: a modern edition of the autobiography of an Italian American who returned to Italy to volunteer as an infantryman in World War I and became a convinced pacifist; and a documentary collection of the writings of Sicilian soldiers who were fighting at the front.
| |
His current project, which draws on the resources of the Hoover Institution, the New York Public Library, and Seton Hall's Valente Italian Library, is a study of the controversial Italian American journalist Gino Speranza, who was prominent in the period from 1900 to 1927. Staiti will give a lecture, "The Great War of the Sicilians: Letters, Diaries, Memoirs," on Tuesday, April 11 at 6 p.m., in the Beck Rooms of Walsh Library, with a reception to follow.
