VECD Fogarty Global Health Fellows Conference
U.S. Ambassador-at-Large Deborah Birx, M.D., U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy, engaged in a lively debate along with Venkat Narayan, M.D., Emory University, on whether or not PEPFAR's mission and funding should encompass non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevention, screening and treatment at the conference on Chronic Consequences of Global Infectious Diseases held in Nashville from January 22-24. Global Health Case Competition Week
The 7th annual Global Health Competition started yesterday, Feb. 2, with the case reveal, and a meet and greet with distinguished Haitian physicians, Dr. Telemaque and Dr. Pierre. The topic for this year's competition is "Improving Maternal and Child Health Outcomes in Haiti by Expanding Access to Safe Surgery."

I
nterdisciplinary teams will present their case analysis and recommendations to a panel of expert judges and audience members on February 11. The public is invited to watch the final presentations and hear the keynote speaker, Dr. Christophe Millien, M.D., from Partners in Health Hospital in Mirebalais, Haiti. The winning team will represent Vanderbilt University at the annual Emory International Global Health Case Competition in Atlanta, GA.
