Dear Fenwick Students, Parents and Guardians,

As a re-affirmation of my video message from last week, with the full support of the Fenwick Leadership Team, Board of Directors and faculty/staff, our goal is to return to full in-person instruction at Fenwick - while maintaining academic excellence - as soon as possible within the health and safety mandates imposed by the Village of Oak Park and other governmental agencies.

That said, please note the following:
  • Graduation and Senior Prom will be held on the same day, May 29. As previously announced, Commencement and Baccalaureate mass will be held the morning of Saturday, May 29 (more details to come) and the Senior Prom will be held that evening at the Max in McCook. This decision was primarily made to avoid seniors missing either/both events due to quarantine requirements.

  • At the March 30 Health Policy and Facilities (“Reopening”) Task Force meeting it was acknowledged that “the inconsistencies between social distancing [3 ft.] and quarantining distance [6 ft.] in the recently revised guidelines make it impossible to return to full in-person learning without the potential for significant disruption for the remaining portion of the school year.”

  • With that in mind, as moved at the March 30 “Reopening” meeting:  Fenwick has submitted a proposal to the Village of Oak Park Public Health Dept. to “seek a variance on the guidelines for quarantining that the VOPPHD [and CDC, IDPH and Cook County] have put in place which would allow Fenwick to return to near full capacity with minimal disruption.”  As a new Director of the VOPPHD has just started within the past two weeks, Fenwick is waiting for a response to a meeting request to discuss this proposal.

  • The Reopening Task Force is meeting again next Tuesday, April 20.

  • A Town Hall meeting will be held next week (details TBD) to discuss, among other things, the schedule for the remainder of this school year.

  • Regardless of the schedule for the remainder of this school year, Fenwick intends to fully reopen for five-day, in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year.
Thank you very much for your continued support and cooperation during this stressful time, as we all navigate difficult decisions that must be made with the best interest of all our students in mind.
Yours in Christ,

Fr. Richard Peddicord, O.P.
President
