Completed residency at Woodhull Medical and Mental Center in New York followed by a clinical nutrition fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and a transplant hepatology fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center. 

Rahul Shekhar, M.D.

Completed residency at University of Missouri Columbia and has been working as the director of research and scholarly activity at the University of Mexico.  

Tiffany Schwasinger-Schmidt, M.D., Ph.D., was featured in local newspaper “The Active Age” on May 30 on the KU Wichita and ComfortCare Homes collaboration on the Alzheimer’s battle.

K. James Kallail, Ph.D.

Donna Sweet, M.D., and K. James Kallail, Ph.D., were honored March 30 during a recognition ceremony in Topeka by Governor Laura Kelly for 40 years of service to the state of Kansas. Dr. Sweet has been a faculty member with KU School of Medicine since 1982. Dr. K. James Kallail has been with KU School of Medicine since 1987.

KU School of Medicine-Wichita Medical Practice Association’s School-Based Health Clinics at Haysville USD 261 and Valley Center USD 262 were honored by the Wichita Business Journal with the Health Care Innovations Award.

James Kallail, Ph.D., was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

James Walker Jr., M.D., was presented with the Health Care Educator Award.

W. Ransom Kilgore, M.D., was presented with the Health Care Heroes-Physician Award.

Quoc Truong, M.D., was presented with the Health Care Heroes-Physician Award.

“I enjoy teaching residents and students the dynamic field of hematology/oncology. I have more than 10 years of experience in the field of hematology/oncology, transplant and cellular therapy. My interests include playing golf with my kids and touring Napa with my wife yearly to enjoy wine.”

“I was drawn to medicine from a young age. I witnessed firsthand how physicians were able to help my family and friends overcome their illness and suffering, and I was fascinated by their ability to transform people's lives by diagnosing and treating their conditions. This inspired me to pursue a career in medicine to have a similar impact on others. As I got older, I became more and more passionate about this field, and when it came time to decide about my future, I could not see myself in anything other than medicine.

Choosing this career path has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing the positive impact we have on patients makes all the hard work and sacrifice worth it. Working with a diverse group of residents from different backgrounds has been one of the best experiences of my residency so far. I have had the chance to learn about different cultures and traditions while sharing my own, which has helped me develop a strong bond with my coworkers whom I now consider like family. My career interests include hematology and oncology.

As for my hobbies, I enjoy hiking, swimming, jogging and soccer. One of the great benefits of being in Wichita is that it allows me to practice most of my hobbies throughout the year. I especially enjoy all the parks and jogging trails the city has to offer.”

Parker Bohm, M.D. Dr. Bohm is a physician with the Neurology Consultants of Kansas and will be working with the students and residents in our department on an internal medicine rotation. Dr. Bohm joined us in April 2023.

Megan Dingwall, M.D.

Dr. Dingwall joined the Department of Internal Medicine in 2016 as the associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the coordinator of quality improvement education and research for KUSM. 

James Kallail, Ph.D.

Dr. Kallail retired June 30 after 36 years with KU School of Medicine-Wichita. Thank you for your dedication and exemplary teaching efforts with the Department of Internal Medicine and the school at large. 

Resident graduation was Thursday, June 8, at Crown Uptown Theatre. The event was filled with joy as fellow residents, faculty and family joined in celebration to honor our graduates.

Residents, faculty and their families gathered for a fun night out at Top Golf on Thursday, April 13.  

Residents and faculty were able to mingle with the new intern class while enjoying a fun evening of food and swimming on June 30
at our orientation welcome event hosted at the home of Drs. Lisa Le and Wassim Shaheen.

Gastroenterology fellows and faculty gathered July 5 at the home of Dr. Nathan Tofteland to welcome the incoming GI fellows.
