Dr. Rodney Hopson Named Interim Dean 

Dr. Rodney Hopson has been named interim dean after Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy left SOE in January. Dr. Hopson is a distinguished scholar and program evaluation expert. He served as Acting Co-Dean and Professor in SOE from 2023–24 and then as Senior Associate Dean and Professor in SOE, demonstrating his strong leadership and deep commitment to the school. Hopson’s experience and dedication make him exceptionally well-positioned to guide SOE during this difficult time for schools of education nationwide.

Papers will be presented In-person in Washington, DC, on June 20-21 with other virtual and in-person components on June 19.

"Dr. Rogers shares insights from her research, discussing how recognizing and celebrating Black Language—rather than correcting it—is essential to honoring students’ identities and supporting their academic growth." Dr. Jacque D. Patterson, Sr. (EdD ’22) has been re-elected to the DC State Board of Education as At-Large Representative. Read Dr. Patterson's biography here. 

Assistant Professor Liana Petruzzi, a founding member of the Community Health Worker and Social Worker National Workgroup, launched their inaugural report “Essential Strategies for the Effective Integration and Collaboration of Community Health Workers and Social Workers in Health and Social Service Systems.” The event and report shared best practices for community health and social workers collaboration and integration at the individual, organizational, and system levels, along with policy recommendations.

"Identifying Sources of Preservice Teachers’ Dyslexia Knowledge to Guide Teacher Education" in Frontiers in Education by Professor Alida Anderson presents findings from an exploratory descriptive qualitative inquiry of preservice teachers' self-reported dyslexia knowledge sources.
