Honoring a Huntsville Legend
Council Member David Little had the privilege of presenting a resolution to Ed Buckbee at the Oct. 23 Council meeting that recognized his outstanding leadership in space exploration and museum education. A true icon in the space community, Mr. Buckbee is widely respected as an author, lecturer, space expert and director emeritus.
He founded U.S. Space Camp in 1982 and was inducted into the Space Camp Hall of Fame in 2007. He has been a cornerstone of the U.S. space program since beginning his career with NASA in 1959.

Road Resurfacing in D2
The City Council recently approved funding for Phase 4 of the City’s road improvement plan for the 2025 fiscal year. The improvements include resurfacing and concrete work for neighborhood roads. Several streets in D2 are part of the projects, including:
  • Mill Run Road from Old 431 to end of street
  • Peck Road from Oakwood Avenue to Melbourne Avenue
  • Stanwood Boulevard from Moores Mill Road to Shields Road

Supporting The Schools Foundation
Council Member Little recently allocated $5,000 from the District 2 Council Improvement Fund to The Schools Foundation Executive Director Jeanne Greer to support its mission of strengthening educational programs and providing vital resources for Huntsville City Schools. The Schools Foundation serves as an advocate and provides a central voice for strategic engagement on many of the current issues relating to education that impact Huntsville-area schools.

Heroes Behind Huntsville Fire & Rescue
The heroes behind the heroes at Huntsville Fire & Rescue work each day to ensure firefighters have the equipment they need to answer emergency calls. Firefighters are covered from head to toe in personal protective equipment and it’s the job of HFR Support Services to make sure that equipment is in top condition. That also goes for the rescue equipment carried on fire trucks.

Huntsville Police Seeks Public Feedback
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is asking residents to provide feedback as part of its reaccreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Residents can share their comments through CALEA’s online public comment portal, which is designed to gather input on HPD’s delivery of public safety services, community engagement, professionalism and overall performance. Comments may include commendations as well as concerns and will be reviewed directly by CALEA as part of its evaluation.

Huntsville’s thriving music scene is making a strong case for inclusion in the Americana Music Triangle alongside such historic music cities as New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville. “Huntsville is one of those hidden gems,” said GRAMMY®-winning artist Mike Farris, who lives in nearby Winchester, Tenn. “Huntsville is definitely becoming an attraction for people because it is such a special little place.”

Homeowners are responsible for making sure leaves do not clog storm drains in front of their homes. Clogged drains can create driving hazards and strain City resources.
