Spring Events & Fundraisers
April 19, 2016
NOTE FROM CEO
Isn’t spring a wonderful season?  I love the spring because of warmer weather, new growth, the Easter Season but most of all, because of the crazy Special Olympics Oklahoma schedule!  So many events conducted with several yet to be held.  Special Olympics Oklahoma is well underway into our 47th year of offering events throughout the state.  Just as the seasons change, Special Olympics Oklahoma is constantly looking for ways we can change to provide the best opportunities for the athletes.  Special Olympics Oklahoma is indebted to thousands of volunteers that drive the program daily.  I hope you realize how fortunate we are to have volunteer Area Management Teams who work so hard in planning and implementing great events.  The athletes are receiving outstanding training from the most dedicated coaches anywhere in preparation for Area competitions and Summer Games.  I also must give a “Shout Out” to the dedicated Special Olympics Oklahoma staff that love their job of working with and for you.  I want to personally thank YOU for making Special Olympics Oklahoma the outstanding program that it is today.
When we are asked to define Special Olympics, how do we respond?  Do we explain about the sports and training component of the Program with our Mission Statement?  How about the Area events or your family involvement?  Is it the magnitude of the Summer or Winter Games, or Law Enforcement Torch Run, or Athlete Leadership Programs?  Is it jumping in icy cold water to raise money for the movement?  It is all of these things and more!
We realize how busy everyone is in their daily lives.  It got us to thinking about how blessed we are as an organization.  We must take the time to periodically stop and appreciate all the wonderful things Special Olympics means to us.  Most importantly, how Special Olympics Oklahoma continues to change lives for the better throughout our state and in every community.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, I wish you a fantastic year ahead in all of your Special Olympics Oklahoma endeavors, and I look forward to seeing you at the next event!
