Hebrew College is a Boston-area institution of Jewish learning and leadership that offers community learning programs for all ages and stages within a pluralistic environment of open inquiry, depth, creativity, and compassion, as well as graduate programs in rabbinical, cantorial, Jewish education, and Jewish studies.

Finding Online Community During Unprecedented Times

When Hebrew College, with support from CJP, launched a series of online community learning courses in March in response to the pandemic, classes filled up immediately. We heard from many of you that finding community through online learning during this unprecedented time was invaluable. We also heard that, while Zoom is an all too familiar new part of our lives, our online community courses have nurtured connection and provided spiritual nourishment and a much-needed refuge from the day-to-day uncertainty we all face right now.

In this issue of our newsletter, we're pleased to share some of these stories of online connection. If you have a story or experience to share, we’d love to hear it. Please send it to us.

In response to this thirst for Jewish learning, thanks to the generous support of CJP, we're pleased to offer a wide variety of new online summer courses.

Another Stop On My Jewish Journey

"Initially, I couldn’t imagine that virtual learning would be anywhere near as enriching as being in the presence of others. To me, distance was the antithesis of community and I assumed virtual meetings would loosen my already tenuous grasp on my Jewish belonging. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. The virtual Eser meetings took on a significance of their own. They not only punctuated my week, but also provided a unique gathering of people who were both bonded by their Jewishness and connected by the shared experience of living through a pandemic. The virtual platform for these meetings shed new light on what it means to commune, to connect, and to share."
