"Slow Horses" by Mick Herron

“I'm not sure what prompted me to pick up this British spy thriller. What I do know is that I didn't expect to become immediately hooked on the entire series, which follows the exploits of a team of washed-up MI-5 agents who have been banished to the administrative backwater of the aptly-named Slough House. While freshly disgraced new guy River Cartwright is the main character, the team's horrific boss is the real star of the show. Jackson Lamb--slovenly, unkempt, often drunk and disorderly--maintains a work environment that is best described as hostile, yet proves to be fiercely protective of his people when they are threatened. Watching Lamb and his team accidentally fall into a ripped-from-the-headlines terrorism case is highly entertaining. Recommended for anyone who enjoys a suspenseful espionage story with an intricate plot and a large cast of flawed but likable characters.” --Brett, Collection Development

Library Stories
One afternoon working the accounts desk, I was approached by a mom with two kids bearing a large stack of picture books to check out. She apologized for the number, to which I said, “Oh, we love this! That’s the great thing about the library. You can almost always get everything you want because it’s not about money.” To which she said, “Yeah, you know? I think that’s why I love the library so much. Because I don’t have to say no.” - Terzah, Librarian
