UAH Ties Record with 84% Freshman Retention Rate |
This Fall, 84% of the incoming freshmen class from Fall 2024 returned to UAH to continue their studies. This rate matches the UAH historical record set last year and is the result of hard work across the whole institution on improving academics, policy, engagement, and learner support. For more information on national trends in learner persistence and retention, visit the National Learner Clearinghouse’s annual report.

New federal Title II guidelines require captioning of all videos you use in your course or require learners to watch. Autocaptioning in Panopto has been turned on to begin to address the videos you create. Make sure all the videos in your course are stored in Panopto to have them captioned. Videos from YouTube or other sites should be close-captioned or not used.

Invite Learner Feedback Now |
Consider gathering learner feedback at midterm—before end-of-semester evaluations. This simple practice can strengthen your teaching and boost engagement for the second half of the course.
Your approach can be as straightforward as a "Stop, Start, Continue" survey (what should I stop, start, or continue doing?) or targeted questions about specific aspects like pacing or assignments.
Faculty across campus report positive shifts in learners' attitudes after implementing midterm feedback. Learners appreciate being heard, and instructors gain actionable insights while there's still time to respond.
For ideas on questions to ask, check out this resource from the University of Pittsburgh.

| Get Ready: UAH Mission Accessible Launching Soon! |
UAH Mission Accessible is launching soon to support faculty in meeting updated Title II accessibility guidelines.
Accessible materials benefit all learners - captions help both learners with hearing loss and those new to content terminology and proper names, while clear document structure aids everyone from mobile users to learners with vision impairments. This campus-wide initiative will provide training and resources to help you enhance course accessibility step by step. We're starting this journey together, with ongoing support as we work toward improving learning experiences for all learners.
Watch for details on upcoming online training and resources!
