A look back at the Fall

We’ve had plenty of memorable moments on campus already this semester. As we head towards Thanksgiving Break, look back on some highlights like Homecoming Week, a new STEM maker space, the fall play, and more in student life.

The True Story of Thanksgiving

As we prepare for Thanksgiving week, enjoy this article from "Desiring God" about the presence of gratitude in Scripture.
Come Thanksgiving Day each year, many of us give the nod to Pilgrims and Indians and talk of making ready for a harsh first winter in the New World.
But for the Christian, the deepest roots of our thanksgiving go back to the Old World, way back before the Pilgrims, to a story as old as creation, with a two-millennia-old climax. It’s a story that keeps going right on into the present and gives meaning to our little lives, even when we’re half a globe removed from history’s ground zero at a place called Golgotha.
You could call it the true story of thanksgiving — or you could call it the Christian gospel viewed through the lens of that often undervalued virtue known as “gratitude.” It opens up a few biblical texts we otherwise may be prone to downplay.

Student-Athlete Signing Day

Last Wednesday, 18 student-athletes signed to take their talents to the college level. 18 signees ties for most ever for a single signing day in Valor history, with 12 of them competing at the Divison 1 level! Congrats to all!

Valor Business Network Meeting November 20

The Valor Business Network Coffee for Parents is meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 8:30-9:30 am at the Valor Business Office – 8100 Southpark Way Unit B in Littleton.

Discovery Team Selection

Discovery team selections will be announced on November 20. Students who did not respond to requests for written or in-person interviews, or who did not have enough qualifying service hours will not be selected to a team.
Discovery will host a mandatory meeting for all students who are selected to a team on Monday, December 2 at 6:00 pm.

More Discovery Opportunities

If your student missed the deadline for applying to a Discovery team, both Denver Spring and Summer applications are still open. The Peru Family application is also open. Your family could serve alongside other Valor families this summer. Apply for Peru Family here.
Students looking for service opportunities during the upcoming holidays,  should visit the Discovery group service page. A new opportunity with the Salvation Army has just been added.

John Hopkins University Student Survey

On Friday, November 22 during our reserved Life Group time, Valor students will have an opportunity to participate in a pilot survey regarding school culture.
While Valor also implements various surveys throughout the year to gain input from parents, students and faculty, we feel that it is also helpful to occasionally gain feedback from 3rd party resources that may have an additional vantage point. The Johns Hopkins survey may be slightly limited in that the terminology doesn’t completely fit our institution, but it should give us some additional disaggregated information that could be helpful in our pursuit of improvement.
As always, we recognize parents as the primary educators of their students. If you have any concerns about your student taking this survey, please ask them not to participate. This is a voluntary survey.

Save the Date for PACT and ACT Testing

Valor will administer the PACT (10th graders) and the ACT (11th graders) on Tuesday, April 7th beginning at 8:10 am. Please mark your calendars now to ensure that your student is present for this test. No registration is required.
Juniors who have not taken a fall Valor test prep course will be offered a test prep opportunity for the second semester. Details will follow at a later date.

Get Tickets for Vespers: Snowed In!

Warm your heart this holiday season as you laugh and love alongside the Johnson family in the midst of their dysfunctional pursuit of the true meaning of Christmas! Vespers is our annual Valor tradition where we gather as a whole school community to celebrate Jesus' birth. We encourage you to bring a friend to Vespers this year as well, since it’s truly a fun, seeker-friendly show.
