Face Covering Update: Statewide Mandate for Masks
Beginning Friday, Aug. 13, all people age 5 and older in the state of Oregon will be required to wear a mask in all indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, per an order issued by Governor Kate Brown. Based on this and other updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, Oregon Health Authority, and Multnomah County Public Health, face coverings are now required for all individuals inside University of Portland buildings, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are not required in private office space, private laboratories, and dorm rooms. They’re also not required in outdoor spaces on campus, although it is recommended for those who are unvaccinated, and is encouraged for anyone who feels more comfortable wearing a mask. Those who have received an exemption from the University’s vaccination requirement must adhere to the guidance they received in connection with their exemption. Please read the full face-covering policy for more details. The University will revisit this policy before September 17, taking into account the latest county, state, and federal guidelines and recommendations.

Back to Campus and Back Together Again

University of Portland recently celebrated its employees and their return to The Bluff with parties filled with food, fun, fellowship—and one very fluffy llama. Check out our recap of the festivities.

What's New in The Neighborhood

The Bluff is as beautiful as ever, but a few things have changed in the year and a half since UP staff and students were on campus full time—one of the biggest being the new bench-lined plaza between Joe Etzel Field and the Chiles Center. Not only that, North Portland’s surrounding neighborhoods are sporting several new coffee houses, shops, and restaurants. Check out the updated Portland pages to find out what’s new and notable in the neighborhood and beyond, including the first Portland outpost of Bend’s beloved Sparrow Bakery, just a stone’s throw away in St. John’s.

Vaccination status Reporting and dashboard

If you still have not uploaded your vaccination status or formally requested an exemption, please do so as soon as possible. Visit the vaccination page for instructions. We must do all we can to ensure a safe and lasting return to campus, and the resumption of in-person University classes and operations. You can also check our community’s progress on our vaccination dashboard, which is updated weekly. As of August 1, nearly 98% of employees and 67% of students were compliant.

self-test kits and Symptom Monitoring

Although UP no longer administers surveillance testing for COVID-19, it does offer students and employees self-administered test kits through the Health and Counseling Center and Campus Safety. Students can also request a kit in their residence hall, and should call the Health & Counseling Center (HCC) for further assistance.
UP community members are no longer required to check-in daily using the Carbon Health or Campus Clear apps. All members are asked to continue to self-monitor personal health symptoms for any signs of illness. Contact one’s primary health care provider for advice; or for students, please contact the HCC.
