Dear Faculty Colleagues:
Part of our mission in the GE Implementation Task Force is to find ways to support faculty who are revising their courses for GE 5. In accord, this memo describes support that will be available to you that we hope you will find beneficial. If you have other needs related to this task that are not addressed here, please let us know by emailing GEimplementation@newpaltz.edu.
Beginning May 30 and continuing through summer 2022, the Faculty Development Center (FDC) will coordinate working group sessions for faculty who will be revising current GE 3, GE 4, and Diversity courses for GE 5 to meet the September 1 major course revisions submission deadline. If you are planning any of the following course adaptations for GE 5, please consider joining a FDC sponsored working group. Working groups will be in-person and hybrid and/or virtual to accommodate the needs of faculty who may find it difficult to attend on-campus sessions.
- Transferring current GE 3 and GE 4 courses, as well as courses that meet the current Diversity graduation requirement, into the analogous GE 5 areas.

- Proposing current non-GE courses for inclusion in any of GE 5's ten Knowledge and Skills areas.
The GE Implementation Task Force all-fs April 6 memo to the campus includes detailed information about the process for major course revisions as well as guidance for adapting current GE 3, GE 4, and Diversity courses to GE 5. We strongly encourage you to refer to this information.
The FDC will provide information about signing up for a working group if you are planning one of the course adaptations described in 1-3 above.
GE Implementation Task Force now on GE Program Website
We have been listening and we heard your request to have information easily accessible in a single location. The General Education Program Website now includes a section for the GE Implementation Task Force. The dropdown menu includes pages for membership, communications, forms and FAQs. We will continue to update the website as our work progresses. If you have suggestions for the website, please email them to deutscha@newpaltz.edu or GEimplementation@newpaltz.edu.
Syllabus Sharing
Sample syllabi will be posted to the GE Board website under GE Implementation Task Force once they become available. The website’s URL is https://www.newpaltz.edu/ge/.
FAQs
We have started a FAQ with answers to questions and will add to it as other questions arise. The FAQ can be accessed on the GE Board website under GE Implementation Task Force using this link https://www.newpaltz.edu/ge/.
Financial Token of Appreciation
The Provost’s Office will offer $150 per course to full-time faculty who submit major course revisions and new course proposals to their Associate Dean by September 1 (see the GE Implementation Task Force April memo to campus). We recognize the challenge this deadline presents and acknowledge that current budgetary constraints limit the amount of additional funds we can offer. We are grateful to faculty for doing this work during the summer months to ensure that we have enough courses in GE 5 for fall 2023. Summer chairs may be eligible to receive additional compensation if they submit major course revisions by the September 1 deadline.
Thank you for all your help as we transition to GE 5. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at GEimplementation@newpaltz.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
