Have you checked out the new mural in Passages of the Deep?
The newest mural in our Passages of the Deep tunnels transports guests to a kelp forest during the Miocene, where ancient giants once ruled the ocean. Created by artist Charles Nye over 35 hours, the massive 11 x 42' piece depicts a dramatic moment as an early baleen whale (Cophocetus), narrowly escapes an attack from Otodus megalodon.
Every detail was created by Charles digitally using an iPad and a Wacom Cintiq. No generative AI tools were used in the creation of this artwork. Most of the plants and animals featured in the mural are based on real fossil discoveries from Oregon and California, blending science, history, and art into one immersive scene.
