Nowlin Presents on Rice Residue Study |
Dr. John Nowlin, associate professor, geospatial technologies, spoke at the annual meeting of Arkansas Rice at the Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center. Nowlin and doctoral student Md Sahadat Hossan are engaged in a multi-year study, seeking to identify high-priority agricultural burning areas by analyzing wind patterns, crop distribution and alternative post-harvest practices. Nowlin presented preliminary results, spatially analyzing rice and corn acreage adjacent to Crowley’s Ridge.

Jackson Addresses Pedagogy Conference |
Dr. Wesley Jackson, assistant professor of history and director of the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) social science educator preparation program, made a presentation at the Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy at Virginia Tech. He explored how universities can improve secondary education teacher retention by redesigning educator preparation programs to better address the realities of the profession. His proposals could effectively reduce burnout and better equip novice teachers for long-term success.

Regn Receives Kays Grant for Research |
A grant application from Orithea Z. Regn, research associate, Ecotoxicology Research Facility, was approved by the Kays Foundation. The $3,000 award will expand the facility’s ability to perform long-term ecotoxicological studies with fish, as well as with mussels. The grant will cover the cost of integrating two Aquarius Fish systems, allowing for measurement of sublethal impacts, such as altered growth rates and fertility. Students involved in three courses will also benefit..

Kumar Co-Authors Study on Trust |
Dr. Nilesh Kumar, instructor in management, is co-author of an article examining trust asymmetry in the peer-reviewed journal Sage Open. The study explores why trust is often easier to lose than to gain and how imbalances in trust develop between individuals and organizations. Using bibliometric analysis of 41 articles published between 1993 and 2024, the authors identify key individual, external, and contextual factors shaping trust asymmetry.
