| Reverification as a Level 1 Center by the American College of Surgeons
| |
| CHKD has been reverified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center, the highest level of certification for pediatric hospital surgical programs. The reverification survey was conducted by an experienced panel consisting of a surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurse from other prominent children’s hospitals. To ensure high-quality and safe surgical care, CHKD maintains a robust Surgical Performance Improvement Committee. The next reverification for CHKD will occur in three years.

| Robotic-Assisted Surgery with the da Vinci System
| |
| CHKD recently began using the da Vinci surgical system, a robotic-assisted minimally invasive system that was pioneered in 1995. Using the da Vinci allows for smaller incisions, enhanced precision, and faster recovery times.
The surgical system will most often be used by CHKD pediatric urologists and pediatric general surgeons.

| PET Imaging Now Available
| |
| A new diagnostic imaging tool, the positron emission tomography (PET) scanner, is now available at CHKD’s main hospital. This tool, combined with computer tomography (CT), provides our patients more precise, higher quality imaging, allowing our medical teams to develop more effective treatment plans. PET/CT is considered the standard of care for the diagnosis and staging of many forms of cancer.
