Dear Tufts University community members,
I am writing to you today regarding the recent surprise attacks on Israel and the subsequent violence in Gaza and the surrounding region. We deeply mourn the loss of life and those who have been injured in this intense and widespread conflict. These events, which have affected members of the Tufts community, their families, and their loved ones, are painful to witness and difficult to process.
In times of conflict and violence, it is important for all of us to acknowledge the pain and trauma that many in our community are experiencing. First and foremost, we are in the process of reaching out to students, faculty, and staff from this region, as we identify them, to ensure that they have the resources they need to navigate this troubling time.
Second, Tufts community members have access to many resources if they need any support during this difficult time through the Healthy@Tufts resources hub. We believe in the strength of our community coming together to support one another. To that end, we encourage you to connect and spend time with your friends, your classmates, and your loved ones and direct them to the on-campus resources shared above as needed.
Finally, most reports indicate that the violence in the region will not abate soon. While I do not anticipate writing to you at every stage of this conflict, let me assure you that we will continue to provide resources and support to all affected members of the Tufts community and that we are dedicated to fostering an environment where differences of opinion can be discussed openly and respectfully. It is through these conversations that we can learn from one another, bridge divides, and build a stronger, more united community.
Sincerely,
Sunil Kumar
