FoodWIse provides a meaningful experience for UW-Green Bay Dietetic Interns |
The FoodWIse program serves as a preceptor for the Community Nutrition rotation, which is part of the UW-Green Bay Dietetic Internship program. Over the past four years, we have supported at least five interns in completing their community nutrition experience.
The FoodWIse nutrition program reaches SNAP-eligible children, families, and adults in various everyday settings, including daycares, schools, food pantries, farmers markets, community centers, and senior meal sites. Overall, the FoodWIse program has proven to be an excellent platform for the UW-Green Bay Dietetic Internship program.
Dietetic Intern experience with FoodWIse in her own words:
“My name is Jada Ritterling, and I am interning with FoodWIse as part of my graduate nutrition program at UW-Green Bay. During this internship, I have had the opportunity to learn about the many community resources and partners located in Brown County, as well as the incredible work they do every day. I have also observed the dedication and joy of the Brown County FoodWIse team in teaching the community about nutrition and easy ways to make healthy food choices. This summer, I have been working on trifolds covering various nutrition topics like healthy snacking and the importance of hydration, and presenting them at food pantries such as the Salvation Army and Paul’s Pantry. I included fun samples and recipes, like strawberry lemon infused water, with my hydration trifold. It was a big hit! I also helped lead a farmer’s market tour and am assisting with nutrition lessons at places like Manna for Life, New Day, and the Boys and Girls Club with the FoodWIse team. I will carry what I’ve learned during this internship with me when working as a clinical dietitian, and I plan to use community resources for my future patients who need them.”
