ACADEMICS AND CLASSES
This message was sent by the UO Academic Council today to all faculty and GEs, asking them to consider responding to students with flexibility and empathy. The council and the UO provost feel that faculty will be responsive, but note that it’s possible some instructors won’t make all suggested modifications.

Finals week preparation checklist: 
  • Review course materials and past assignments.
  • Connect with classmates and study groups to prepare for exams.
  • Regularly check the university's Going Remote and the UO COVID-19 Updates webpages for resources and updates.
MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR
  • The University Counseling Center offers multiple options for services for students in Eugene and elsewhere. Call 541-346-3227 to schedule in-person, teletherapy, and consultation appointments, or to speak with a mental health professional immediately. Drop-in services are also available; see website for hours.
  • The Steve Fund, an organization focused on supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color, has a 24/7 Crisis Text Line. Text STEVE to 741741 to connect with a culturally trained crisis counselor.
  • The Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture at Boston College has created a Racial Trauma Toolkit to help communities of Color manage post trauma symptoms.
  • The Community Healing Network’s Healing in the Face of Racial Trauma toolkit, created by and for people of African ancestry, is available for free download.
  • Melanin and Mental Health produces the Between Sessions mental health podcast and offers help finding a therapist of color in your community.
  • Therapy for Black Girls has a variety of resources for mental health support and help connecting with mental health professionals.
  • The National Queer and Trans Therapist of Color Network has a directory of providers who identify as queer people of color.
  • Black Mental Health Alliance has additional resources, support, and education, as well as a directory of Black psychiatrists.
  • Need help paying for therapy? Grants from the Students in Crisis Fund can be used to pay for mental health services.
  • Zahra Barnes put together 44 Mental Health Resources for Black People Trying to Survive in This Country, with people and organizations to follow and things to remember while seeking support.
EVENTS, SURVEYS, AND GROUPS
  • The UO Students of Underrepresented Races, Cultures, and Ethnicities (SOURCE) is hosting a virtual gathering for faculty, staff, and students of color to come together and support one another tomorrow, June 5, 2:30–4:00 p.m.
  • The Community for Minorities in STEM is hosting an open conversation about the recent death of George Floyd at the hands of police and the subsequent protests tomorrow, June 5, noon–1:00 p.m. Sign up required.
  • Follow the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center on Instagram (@bccuoregon) and Facebook for information on resources and upcoming events.
  • Visit inclusion.uoregon.edu regularly for updates on programs, events, and initiatives from the Division of Equity and Inclusion.
  • Eugene and Springfield area students are invited to make an appointment to give blood at the UO’s pop-up donor center, Thursday–Saturday this week and next.
  • LGBTESS is hosting an LGBTQIA+ Virtual Student Hangout on Discord Monday, June 8. Sign up in advance.
  • Explore how immersive experiences can help build and maintain connection during the COVID-19 pandemic in a free webinar on Battling Isolation with Virtual Environments.
  • Students are coping with COVID-19 and other current events in different ways. Help design new UO programs to support student mental health by taking this quick Mental Health Survey.
