Yesterday afternoon, Governor Abbott announced initial plans for select Texas businesses to re-open beginning May 1. With the Governor's announcement, and the scheduled expiration of the City of Austin's Stay Home - Work Safe order on May 8, I know that many of you are looking ahead to the time that you and your researchers will be able to work on-site again.
As I described in my memo dated April 16, resuming research operations on campus will be handled in a phased approach based on epidemiological principles as well as operations and supply-chain constraints. We are approaching these matters with careful forethought, and with input from UT Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Human Resources and the CFO's office. Your Associate Deans for Research are working with my office to develop the multi-phased research restart plan now. We intend for Phase 1 of this plan to begin during the month of May, pending approval from the President.
Updates about procedures and processes for resuming on-campus research will be posted to our COVID-19 Research FAQ page. You may direct additional questions regarding restarting on-campus research to your Associate Dean for Research, who can provide further guidance. Your ADRs and I are committed to resuming campus operations in a way that is both safe and productive.
Sincerely,
Alison R. Preston
Interim Vice President for Research
