Good Evening,
Quick family meeting moment: IRW typically publishes on Monday and Thursday, and has done so for the last few years. I'm getting married this summer, so you might notice a few more 'missing issues'. As always, we appreciate our 900+ readers!
Here's an update on the first stereo station in Indiana. The Broadcasting Yearbook indicates several possibilities, but those listings depended on broadcaster input. The answer could be one of these stations:
WFMS (95.5fm, Indianapolis)
WCSI-FM (101.5fm, Columbus) WISH-FM (107.9fm, Indianapolis)
WVTS (100.7fm, Terre Haute)
On June 1, 1961, the FCC first authorized multiplex stereo broadcasting (the system we have now). The first two FM stations nationwide were in Schenectady, New York (WGFM, owned by General Electric) and Chicago, Illinois (WEFM, owned by Zenith Radio Corporation).
Thank you for all of your e-mails to me!
