Women's History Month Books to Read |
| "Agrippina" by Emma Southon |
“Agrippina is a gripping deep dive into the prowess required by an ancient woman to not only survive, but make her mark. How does history view a woman’s rumor-sullied legacy in terms of what a woman with power ‘should’ be?” -Miranda Marquez, NOCCCD Communications Coordinator
"The Lonely Life" by Bette Davis |
"The book really captures how solitude often is a consequence of a woman simply choosing to take care of herself over others, which isn't something people like to get into sometimes! Probably one of my favorite autobiographies I accidentally read." -Melissa Lum, NOCCCD Web Content Specialist
| "Educated" by Tara Westover |
"It is a powerful true story about a woman who grew up in a strict and abusive survivalist family, with no formal education, yet managed to earn a Ph.D. from Cambridge University. Westover’s journey of self-empowerment and determination to seek knowledge despite the odds is unforgettable." -Amita Suhrid / District Director, Professional Development
| |
"The Light We Carry" by Michelle Obama |
"It gives insight on [her individual life and experience as a woman in her profession], friends, family, leading with empathy, and an understanding that there is a still kindness in the world and it all starts with ourselves." -Dr. Flavio Medina-Martin/ District Director of Diversity, Culture, and Inclusion
