Service and Meaning
Back in July, for Independence Day, the Office of Student Veterans touched upon service and stories. This month, as Veteran’s Day approaches, we would like to focus on service and meaning.
As your graduate assistant and as Veteran's Day draws nearer, I wanted to write a personal note. The value of dedicating one’s life to service to our country is immeasurable. During my time in the service, I was challenged to the core of my being. I witnessed more, took on more responsibility, and learned more about commitment than I ever would have—had I not signed with the Navy. I forged friendships in the depths of hardship and discovered my sense of self comes from within, not the outside world.
As our community approaches this socially distanced Veterans Day amidst a pandemic, our office invites you to share with one another the meaning of service. This meaning can pay tribute to an American veteran, living or dead, who touched your life or can be any other photograph, object, piece of art, quote, tattoo, or meditation/prayer that is meaningful as a result of your service.
Each personal submission will be respectfully placed into a community collection that will be shared only with our student veteran and military-affiliated community on Veteran’s Day. You'll find directions on how to share in our "Service and Meaning" collection directly below.
Very respecfully,
Stephanie A. Hilton
