Black Women’s History Week |
Last month, the Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and several student organizations1 collaborated to host 101 students at the inaugural Black Roses Black Women’s History Week Celebration. Originally created by Feminsta Jones, Black Women’s History Week is a program intended to commemorate the accomplishments and personhood of Black women.

Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity (SGD) |
Hosted 25 moviegoers for the QT Film Club’s return to campus this month. The films screened focused on the stories and experiences of queer and trans people.

Housing and Residence Life (Housing) |
Retained 69.2% of undergraduate student staff from the fall to spring semester, a retention increase of 12.4% from the previous year.4
|
| Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) |
Hosted 63 council officers and chapter presidents at the SFL Advance leadership retreat, a 3.3% increase from the previous year.10
|

|
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) |
Provided 1,140 counseling appointments to 630 students, increases of 20.9% and 21.6%, respectively, from February 2023.2

KU Memorial Union (Union) |
Welcomed 372 competitors to the Kansas Esports Sweet Spot Smash Tournament, a 5.1% increase from the previous year.5
|
| Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) |
Opened 163 student conduct cases, an increase of 22.6% from February 2023.11

|
Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity (ETC) |
Hosted 22 students for the inaugural My Bloody Valentine Party, a program benefitting the Period Pantry, a campus resource that provides free menstrual products to students.

KU Recreation Services (Rec. Svcs) |
Hosted 13 participants at Outdoor Pursuits’ cratestacking event, a 116.7% increase from January 2024. The current cratestacking record stands at 23 crates.6
|
| Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC) |
Hosted 12 students at the inaugural BIPOC Student Leadership Roundtable, surpassing the attendance goal by 20%.12
|
|
|
Health Education Resource Office (HERO) |
Delivered 13 safer sex supply orders to academic departments and residence halls located across campus as part of the newly-launched Safer Sex Express program.3

|
Provided 232 student and staff clients with tax filing assistance, a 51.6% increase from February 2023.7
|
| Student Support and Case Management (SSCM) |
Received 180 student referrals from members of the campus community, an 18.4% increase from February 2023.13
|

|
Hilltop Child Development Center (Hilltop) |
Opened the enrollment process for Hilltop Main and Hilltop West campuses. Hilltop’s enrollment capacity will increase to 450 children once both campuses are fully operational in August 2024.

| Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) |
Engaged 106 students in Black History Month programs, a 135.6% increase from February 2023.8

|
Administered 130 vaccines to students, a 48.6% decrease from February 2023.14

| Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center (SAPEC) |
Facilitated 13 educational or awareness programs, a 30.0% increase from February 2024.9

|
1. Collaborating student organizations included Black Student Union, G.E.M.S, KU Black Creatives, African & Caribbean Student Association, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Delta Sigma Sorority, Inc.
2. Provided 943 counseling appointments to 518 total students in February 2023.
3. Deliveries were made to ten different locations in Feb. 24.

| 4. Undergraduate student employee retention by semester: Spring 2024 - 108 of 156 (69.2%); Spring 2023 - 83 of 146 (56.8%).
5. Welcomed 354 esport competitors in 2023.
6. Total cratestacking participants in Jan. 24 = 6. Previous stacking record = 21 crates.
7. Provided tax assistance to 153 clients in February 2023.
8. Engaged 45 students in Black History Month programs in February 2023.
9. Facilitated ten educational or awareness program facilitated in February 2023.

Allisa Chahine was named February Teacher of the Month (Hilltop).
Elizabeth Hegji was named February Student Aide of the Month (Hilltop).
Janaye Ebo, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., received the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award at the Big XII Conference on Black Student Government (SFL).
Lauren Imel received the February WHS Employee of the Month (WHS).
KJHK 90.7FM received the following awards from IBS (Intercollegiate Broadcast System): Best College Station in the Nation, Best College/University Radio Station (over 10,000 students), Best Phone App, Best Live Music Broadcast.
Jon Randle was selected to officiate the 6A KSHAA State Basketball Tournament (Rec. Services).
SAPEC and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment received a four-year RPE (Rape Prevention and Education) grant to implement its Environmental Design and Strategic Prevention program at three sites across the state.
Bobbi Washechek was a finalist for IBS (Intercollegiate Broadcast System) National Faculty Advisor (Union).
