Hello, Gaucho parents & families!

We hope you and your students are enjoying Spring Break. This month's newsletter includes a reminder about Commencement 2024 reservations, an invitation to join our upcoming Give Day and All Gaucho Reunion, a pop quiz for Women's History Month, and more.

Reminders & Announcements

Commencement reservations open April 1! Students in the College of Letters & Science and College of Engineering declaring degree candidacy in 2024 are eligible to make a reservation for their major ceremony using GOLD starting April 1. The last day to make a 2024 Commencement reservation is May 20.

Due to the large number of graduates, students are asked to limit their guest count to six. Tickets for guests are not needed and all ceremonies will be livestreamed on the Commencement website.
Continuing students who applied for 2024-25 campus housing but did not receive a contract were notified by University & Community Housing Services in early March. These students are strongly encouraged to actively seek privately-owned accommodations in the community and are encouraged to visit our rental listings site and attend the next rental fair on April 18
Planning ahead for move-out? Spring quarter final exams take place June 8-14. Students can move out any time after their academic responsibilities are completed but must move out no later than Saturday, June 15 at 10am for all University-owned residence halls and no later than Monday, June 17 at 10am for University-owned undergraduate apartments. All residents will receive detailed information in May on the move-out process. If your student has any questions or concerns about the move-out process, please have them reach out to their Resident Director or Resident Assistant.

UCSB’s Give Day is April 11! On Give Day, participation is the vision. Last year, UC Santa Barbara received over 2,300 gifts for its students, research and programs. Behind each gift is a proud member of our community. We are especially grateful for the parents and families who enhance every part of the UC Santa Barbara experience for all students. It's Time for a Pop Quiz

In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked students how Carol Greider stands out among UC Santa Barbara alumni. Test your knowledge!

Student debate team finishes second at national Ethics Bowl

The second place finish is the best showing by any UC school in the 28-year history of the annual event. Congratulations to all of our participating students! Learn more about the competition.

Dance Team Brings Home Silver

The UCSB Dance Team also came in second with their pom routine at Universal Dance Association’s College Nationals, the best showing in the program’s history! Watch their seaside performance welcoming newly admitted students.

Resource of the Month: Summer Sessions

Did you know that students who take classes during summer are 30% more likely to graduate on time? In addition, summer offers students opportunities to participate in unique programs and courses that aren’t offered during the academic year.

New this year are Summer Minors, minor programs that can be completed over 1–2 summers. Adding a minor can help students develop skills that will allow them to stand out on the job market, and summer is an ideal time to pursue a minor, as students often have more time and flexibility than during the academic year. Scholarships for $1,000 are available to students pursuing Summer Minors!

For students who can’t stay on campus, Summer Sessions offers a robust lineup of fully online courses. And to make summer more affordable, we are offering a 10-unit fee cap for undergraduates. No matter how many units a student registers for, they will be charged for no more than 10! Financial aid is also available for eligible students, as are a number of financial incentives, including the Summer Access Grant and course scholarships.
