NeighborWorks wins two SAGE Awards at the Scranton Chamber Gala
Friday, November 12, was an incredible experience for our NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania team, as we were honored with both of the SAGE Awards we were nominated for during the annual Chamber Gala hosted by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

The awards we received included the "Hometown Star" award (together with our partners at Scranton Tomorrow) for our citywide cleanup program this summer, as well as the "Impact Award: Community Outreach" for the great work by our Aging in Place program to adapt and serve older adults during the pandemic.

Our organization is deeply humbled by this recognition, especially with so many worthy nominees for these and all SAGE awards this year. We are thankful for our staff members, board members, clients, and community partners who work together to allow us to serve our community each and every day.
Elder Cottage Housing Opportunity open for applications
Together with Johnson College, the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging, Simplex Homes and the PA Department of Aging, we jointly announced the Elder Cottage Housing Opportunity (ECHO) program.
Elder cottages are small, separate, manufactured residences that are temporarily placed within the side or rear yard of a family member or caretaker. It is an affordable housing option that allows for older adults to remain close to their loved ones whilst still maintaining their autonomy, privacy and dignity.
Applications are currently live and can be accessed here. The program is building two cottages and will be only be in Lackawanna County. The application deadline is December 10, 2021.

The West Scranton Neighborhood Plan, a 10-year strategy for revitalizing West Side, was released in the fall of 2020 and is now being implemented by NeighborWorks and its community partners. WRT—an architecture, planning, and design firm based in Philadelphia—assisted with development of the plan, which was funded by the Regional Foundation

NeighborWorks NEPA receives grant from Highmark and AllOne Foundation & Charities
NeighborWorks is pleased to announce it has received a $30,000 grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and AllOne Foundation & Charities. These funds will support NeighborWorks’ Friendly Visitor Program in partnership with the Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC). The Friendly Visitor Program will assist in combatting social isolation and loneliness that older adults have experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To identify the most critically isolated and lonely adults, NeighborWorks has partners such as the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging and two Occupational Therapists who will assess and recommend Friendly Visitor services for older adults. To date, ten IVC service corps members made social support telephone calls to over 250 potentially isolated older adults in our community, spending more than 600 hours on the telephone with these individuals.
This grant award was funded with an initial $15,000 from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, which was later matched by AllOne Foundation & Charities.
