Johns Hopkins APL Teaming With DARPA to Accelerate Interoperability Standards for Commercial Lunar Infrastructure

APL is applying its expertise in lunar science and technology to a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency initiative to identify and propose interoperating standards for commercial infrastructure on the Moon.

Sailors 3D-Print Critical Component at Sea Using APL-Installed Hybrid Manufacturing System

Sailors aboard the USS Bataan turned the additive manufacturing at sea concept into reality after successfully fabricating and installing a stainless steel sprayer plate to repair the USS Bataan’s ballasting system. The machinists used a hybrid manufacturing system that was developed and installed on the ship with support from APL and Naval Sea Systems Command, allowing the ship to avoid costly repairs and resume operations.

Call for Abstracts: 2024 Submarine Technology Symposium

May 14-16, 2024 • APL's Kossiakoff Center

The Submarine Technology Symposium is a three-day conference that serves as a premier opportunity for U.S. Navy leadership, industry and academia to engage in productive technical exchanges. The symposium includes selected displays of new technology developments. Speakers allow time for Q&A, and there is time for discussion and networking. Members of industry, government and academia are invited to submit abstracts for presentation. Submission deadline is Nov. 17, 2023. Presentations and exhibits will be selected based on technical content and relevance to the symposium theme and session topics.

APL Programs Develop Maryland’s Future STEM Workforce

In the past five years, nearly 17,000 Maryland students have participated in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs at APL — including high numbers of minority and female students, who are often underrepresented in STEM fields.
