BECOME A CHICKEN FOSTER!
Do you have 2 weeks and a 2ft. x 3ft. spot in your heart and house for a rescued chicken?

by Mary Britton Clouse, Chicken Run Rescue
Chicken Run Rescue is seeking volunteer foster homes for new rescues. Almost every aspect of CRR's activities has been impacted by the avian flu epidemic  rescue, adoption, educational visits, and volunteer activities have all been suspended to protect our rescues from exposure to the flu until the epidemic has subsided. The birds currently at CRR will stay here, safe and sound, b
ut...incoming chickens still need our help.
When birds are impounded at local shelters, CRR has arranged for them to be held for 2 weeks at the shelters so we can find foster homes for them. By the time they go to a foster home, the chickens have been vet checked and have completed a 2-week quarantine at the shelter.

Fosters sign up for a minimum 2-week visit from the new bird. CRR supplies everything. The bird will arrive with a new 24 x 36 x 28-inch crate that provides a safe and portable living/sleeping space. The crate can be situated anywhere in your home where your feathered friend can be part of the family and get used to being around humans and your family's other companion animals.

Detailed care instructions and all supplies are conveniently packed into the Foster Kit including info on phone and email access to CRR 24/7 for any questions that may arise. We bring the bird to you and help set up.
During their stay, the birds bond with the foster family who learns first-hand about the bird's intelligence and social nature. The birds emerge as happy, healthy, and well-adjusted, all ready for a permanent home. And the fosters become well-informed, confident, empathetic advocates for the birds. When they share their experience with others, the circle of compassion widens.

Some fosters may choose to extend their foster term or to adopt the birds permanently once they see how a companion chicken fits in with their lives. Foster care is a prerequisite to adoption from CRR.

Fostering Rae was a wonderful experience. I felt that we were provided with great instructions on how to care for her, and all the supplies we needed. No question was too silly for Mary to answer. I had been so concerned about having Rae in a house full of cats and a visiting dog, but Rae fit in just fine! I look forward to fostering in the future, and hope one day to adopt a chicken or four. – Amy L.
