Why did you choose KSU and Coles?
I had a tremendous experience as an undergraduate accounting student at KSU, and was able to build on existing relationships with  faculty members and meet new faculty in my graduate accounting studies. The undergraduate program presented me with many unique involvement and leadership opportunities, and the quality and availability of professional development opportunities only grew during my graduate education.
How was the Coles accounting program unique?
The accounting program allowed me to develop close relationships with professionals in Atlanta through their relationships with professional organizations such as the North Atlanta Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Atlanta Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. These networking opportunities provided me with my first corporate job opportunity.
How has your MAcc degree helped your career?
My MAcc degree helped advance my career by fulfilling the education requirements for the CPA and CIA certifications.  Additionally, this degree uniquely developed my knowledge of the organizations and individuals who really shape the accounting and auditing professions in the US.  Finally, this program concentrated on developing professional leadership skills in addition to technical accounting skills, uniquely differentiating their graduates for leadership roles throughout their careers.
What was the most memorable or influential experience of your time at KSU?
The most meaningful experience of my academic career at KSU was the opportunity to serve as a Graduate Research Assistant for research-engaged faculty in the School of Accounting.  This provided me with the chance to "see beyond the textbook" and understand how accounting and auditing knowledge are created and refined in the research process.  Also, this experience has truly shaped my long-term career goals. The most meaningful personal experience during my time at KSU was proposing to my beautiful wife near the Legacy Gazebo during the senior year of my undergraduate studies!
What is your advice to students aspiring to work in accounting?
I would strongly encourage any student in an accounting career to dive right in and take at least the intermediate accounting class to confirm their interest in the subject.  An accounting education provides an impressive breadth of career opportunities for graduates, from financial reporting and corporate management to analysis roles and higher education. Once students have decided to pursue their accounting education, I'd highly recommend they become involved with accounting student organizations such as Beta Alpha Psi, NASBA, or the Internal Audit Student Organization.  Finally, they should strive to obtain a relevant professional certification such as the CPA, CMA, or CIA as one of the first great achievements in their chosen career. The accounting and auditing professions provide quite a wonderful and rich experience!
