Faculty Reflections
Will Miller, who teaches Biology, Statistics, Chemistry, and Geometry, reflected on his year at The Academy at Charlemont thus far:
"Teaching at The Academy has been truly inspirational, and it’s largely the students here who have made it so. Academy students possess remarkable creativity, intellectual curiosity, a willingness to pursue lines of inquiry as far as possible, and are dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive community. I have come to expect a great deal from the students in my classes, and am continuously impressed with their work. This has allowed me to give them more autonomy in the classroom- more freedom to improvise, explore ideas with scientific creativity, and direct the focus of their studies. Their hard work is infused with good humor and appreciation for one another’s ideas. It’s a joy to behold, and I feel like I’m part of something great."
BIG LOVE
This year's winter drama production, Big Love by Charles Mee, opens tonight at 6:00 PM to a sold out audience. The play will also be presented tomorrow, March 5 at  6:00 PM, Friday, March 11 at 6:00 PM, with a matinee show on Saturday, March 12 at 2:30 PM.

Drama Portraits
Thanks to Photo II students Zell Goleman, Emily Nitzsche and Connor O'Brien who took portraits of all Big Love cast members, and Digital Photography students Izzy Brenizer, Sophia Corwin and Leni Sperry-Fromm who edited them for print preparation. These portraits will be on display in the foyer during the performances.  Should families like to purchase a print for $15, please contact Nora Bates Zale. Proceeds will be divided amongst the students who supported these efforts, and a small amount will be donated to support the school's growing digital photography program.
March 2 F Block Presentation
Richard Prée, pictured above, and Academy senior Allen Gabriel, both members of Citizens' Climate Lobby, gave a presentation on climate change and their experience in CCL. CCL is an organization working to prevent climate change by communicating with members of congress about a carbon fee and dividend solution. The system would place a fee on carbon at it's source in fossil fuels and return the money to citizens as a dividend. It was an informative, inspiring, and convincing presentation!
March 9 F Block
Next Wednesday's F block will be dedicated to Winter Athletics Awards. We invite the extended community to attend, and give support to all athletes who competed during this rather unwintry winter season.
Grove Season
Time to purchase a yearbook ad for your graduating senior - or your business!
It's that time - we are kicking off ad sales for our yearbook, The Grove. All students will be assigned an ad to sell (or multiple ads -- returning students are given the same ad or ads that they sold last year, new students are assigned new customers). The sale of an ad generates a free yearbook for the selling student; students who do not sell an ad will be charged for the cost of their yearbook.
Parents of the graduating class often purchase ad space to congratulate their seniors -- these ads count toward the free yearbook for the corresponding student. Parents who are business owners are also welcome to work with their student to purchase an ad. If you are interested in creating an ad for your senior or business, please review this link for details on sizes and specs, complete this ad contract, and send it along with the ad to grove@charlemont.org, or send in a hard copy. Ads, questions or concerns can be directed to Nora Bates Zale. The deadline for ad sales is April 22.
