DARK SKY TOURISM: A STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY FOR LINCOLN CITY
For too many people, the night sky has become a forgotten wonder, washed out by the glow of artificial lights. With 80% of Americans unable to see the Milky Way from home, dark sky tourism is surging as people seek escapes from urban light pollution.
Lincoln City has the chance to become one of these destinations. With the vast, light-free expanse of the ocean beside us, we already have a head start—but to truly maximize our dark sky potential, we must take steps to reduce light pollution within the city itself. Doing so brings countless benefits: protecting nocturnal wildlife, reducing energy consumption, improving public health, and boosting our local economy by attracting visitors who value the night sky.
There are no designated dark sky locations on the Oregon Coast so far. We are taking steps toward a darker, star-filled sky—evaluating street lighting, exploring partnerships, reviewing ordinances, and engaging the community. Stay tuned for more updates on our dark sky initiatives in the months to come.

STRATEGIC PLANNING SURVEY
Lincoln City is planning for the future, and community input is essential. In partnership with the Coraggio Group, the city is developing a strategic plan to guide its growth and priorities. To ensure the plan reflects what matters most, feedback is being gathered through a community survey.
Residents, business owners, and those who work in Lincoln City are encouraged to share their perspectives, as their insights will help shape the city's vision and direction.
The five-minute survey is available online through February 21st. Please share it with friends and colleagues in Lincoln City.

LINCOLN CITY DEBUTS THE OREGON COAST’S FIRST 4TH OF JULY DRONE SHOW
Lincoln City is leading the way to a more environmentally friendly Independence Day celebration starting in 2025. Instead of fireworks, we will be staging an innovative drone show. Two hundred drones, each fitted with brilliant LED lights, will perform synchronized formations set to music.
We are making this change in response to growing community concerns about the environmental and wildlife impacts, public safety issues, and wildfire risk that can be caused by traditional fireworks shows. We’re excited to be addressing these concerns while offering an exciting new celebration format for aerial entertainment.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF FINDERS KEEPERS: A COMMUNITY COLLABORATION
For 25 years, Finders Keepers has been a cherished tradition in Lincoln City, delighting visitors and boosting the local economy. Explore Lincoln City is proud to champion this iconic program, which has become a symbol of our town’s unique character.
This milestone is more than just an anniversary—it’s a celebration of community. Local businesses, organizations, and residents are coming together to honor Finders Keepers. So far, Beachcrest Brewing Company has crafted a special Finders Keepers IPA, and the North Lincoln County Historical Museum has curated a 25 Years of Finders Keepers exhibit.
Want to be part of the celebration? If you’re a local business or organization with a creative way to join in, reach out to marketing@lincolncity.org—we’d love to hear your ideas!

RETRO EXPO: REBRANDING A LEGACY EVENT
This year, Explore Lincoln City rebranded the long-running Antique and Collectibles Week as Retro Expo, a strategic move to modernize the event and broaden its appeal. More than just a name change, the shift reflects a thoughtful effort to stay relevant in a changing market, especially among younger, trend-conscious audiences.
The inaugural Retro Expo was a success, sparking renewed interest in Lincoln City’s antique and vintage shops while laying the foundation for future growth. By investing in events like this, Lincoln City continues to drive off-season tourism, attract new businesses, and strengthen the local economy in an increasingly competitive landscape.
