Faulkner issues statement after video shows 5 Memphis police officers' deadly beating of Tyre Nichols
Herald Reports
Franklin City Police Chief Deborah Faulkner released a statement Saturday after five Memphis police officers beat and brutally murdered Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, earlier this month.
"The horrific video from Memphis left members of the FPD shocked and saddened," Faulkner wrote. "The outrageous actions of the former MPD Officers violated the law and their oath of office. The lack of humanity and professionalism is beyond shameful.

Hoops: Hard-working traits continue to drive Centennial in rivalry win over Bruins
By Charles Pulliam • Sports Editor
FRANKLIN – The Cougars have played the same way all season.
They aren’t the biggest, so they rely on their speed and athleticism to play rock-solid team defense. They don’t necessarily have a go-to scorer, but instead produce points by committee. Perhaps the biggest component is an unflappable mentality to every game and in every game. The Centennial boys play with the same hard-working approach whether they are winning by 20 or trailing.
Friday at Centennial High School epitomized that Cougar style. That’s probably why they picked up a ninth win in 10 games to improve to 4-1 in District 11-4A after a 55-41 win against rival Brentwood. That and a dominant 21-3 run to start the second half.

Nicole Rizane scored 16 points and Quinn Johnston added 11 to lead the Spartans.
“We improved our toughness,” the senior Rizane said. “We did not turn it over as much and were mentally focused this game.”

Hoops: Ravenwood boys win OT thriller, Nolensville girls stay unbeaten in district
By David Dawson • Sports Writer
BRENTWOOD — It’s been a stressful week for the Ravenwood High School boys' basketball team. Stressful, but successful.
Using a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback and two clutch free throws by Will Brent with three seconds left in overtime, the Raptors downed Nolensville, 49-48, on Friday night in a District 12-4A game at Ravenwood. The victory came just three days after the Raptors had knocked off Brentwood, 50-48.
“Two wins over two rivals this week at home – it’s been a good week,” Ravenwood coach Patrick Whitlock said. “But they didn’t come easily. It’s been that kind of year. It seems like every game comes down to the last possession or overtime. I don’t know what to say?
"Just another Friday night in Williamson County.”

Wrestling: Summit dominates, builds for state title push
By Charles Pulliam • Sports Editor
SPRING HILL – After wrestling for third place in back-to-back TSSAA Wrestling State Duals, the Summit High School wrestling team flexed one more time Friday before the Spartans make their return to the state stage.
Summit shut down Collierville in the Class AA Sectional round with a dominant 73-0 victory to earn a third consecutive trip to the state duals next weekend in Franklin. And the Spartans, well, they want more than wrestling for third place.
“We believe it more this year,” said 145-pound Summit sophomore Brayden Leach, who claimed a 10-3 decision Friday. “ Last year, we were looking forward to state, but I don't think we believed we could win, but this year, I think we all believe we can win it.
