From graphic designer to first responder, husband-wife find role
By Carole Robinson • Senior Staff Writer
For years Ashlae Sympson and her husband were graphic designers for Whole Food. One day, while taking a walk, they were approached by a volunteer firefighter. He talked about the all-volunteer Williamson County Fire & Rescue Squad and how it protects the community.
“[My husband] signed up and loved it,” Sympson said.
That was in 2012. Five years later he took a paid firefighting job with the Rutherford County Fire Department.

Franklin deputy police chief identified as one of the citizens who helped couple escape house fire
By Emily Spatz for the Williamson Herald
The Franklin Fire Department has identified Franklin Police Deputy Chief J.P. Taylor as one of the good Samaritans who helped a couple escape a house fire on Lewisburg Avenue last week. The house belongs to former Franklin Mayor Lillian Stewart, who escaped the fire unharmed along with her husband.
Taylor was driving to work at the time when he saw smoke and was advised over his police radio that it was coming from 201 Lewisburg Ave. When he pulled over to the residence, two women who were already on-scene told him people were still in the house.

By TERESA M. WALKER • AP Sports Writer
LEBANON (AP) — Ross Chastain has been criticized as reckless and too aggressive, a driver seen as giving no respect and not deserving any from competitors.
His hard-driving style paid off Sunday night as Chastain held off Martin Truex Jr. to win the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, his first win in over a year and the third NASCAR Cup Series victory of his career.
Chastain said everyone has to deal with criticism. His approach? Just keep working.
