Valparaiso University
center for INNOVATION in teaching, assessment, and learning

March 25, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome back to campus, and to another installment of your CITAL newsletter. Hopefully, spring break was a time to rest and recharge. We are excited to share with you upcoming news and events. One of the goals of the Center is to look for examples of how teaching meets practice. In our blog, Cindy highlights Professor Marin Jacobson’s involvement in the “Day of Music with VOCES8,” which brought this internationally renowned a capella group, Valpo students, and local high school students together for an immersive learning experience. Also, we provide information on the Faculty Open House at the new Center for Games & Interactive Entertainment. Next, we move on to Quality Matters (QM) news, sharing information on an upcoming campus workshop and resources. With Blackboard sunsetting, we are entering the final stages of the transition to Canvas. If you have not already begun thinking about moving your courses, we provide a lot of resources to help you. Finally, we end with news and resources about Simple Syllabus, including a new view, search features, and upgraded navigation for faculty and students. Thank you again for your engagement, and we look forward to ending the year strong.
Sincerely,
The CITAL Team (Ed, Gina, and Cindy)

A Day of Music with VOCES8

On February 25, the Music Department created a hands-on musical education experience for 180 music students from 12 different local high schools as well as for Valpo music students.  Classes and sessions were built around a performance by VOCES8, an internationally renowned a capella group.

Music Professor Marin Jacobson wanted to use this performance by VOCES8 to create educational workshops that would make this a musically enriching day for both visiting high school students and Valpo students.
