We’re excited to welcome Dave Burckhard as the YMCA of Metro Denver’s new Chief Operating Officer, starting January 12, 2026.

Dave brings more than a decade of YMCA experience and a strong record of operational leadership. He joins us from the Valley of the Sun YMCA in Phoenix, where he oversaw multiple branches, led large teams and strengthened membership, operations and fundraising efforts.

Dave, his wife Lora, their children Sloane, Haley and Paul, and their dog Barley are excited to join the Denver Y community. Dave will initially office at the Arvada-Duncan YMCA and will be visiting all branches across the metro area over the coming weeks and months, as he gets to know our teams and communities.

We've introduced a new, streamlined scholarship application process designed to be easier to understand and quicker to complete. With fewer questions and a clearer path, the updated process helps reduce barriers and improve access to Y programs and services for individuals and families. NinjaZone is more than just a kids' activity — it's an energetic, growth-oriented program blending obstacle-course training, gymnastics, martial arts and freestyle movement.

With classes for "Lil Ninjas" (ages 3 – 5) and school-age children (ages 6 – 12), NinjaZone provides an inclusive, supportive environment where kids build strength, coordination, confidence and focus — at their own pace. 

From beginner rolls and vaults at the White level to more advanced flips and combo moves at the Green and Blue levels, NinjaZone offers a structured, progressive path that helps children grow physically and mentally while having fun.

To continue delivering high-quality programs and supporting our staff, we have adjusted membership, fitness and wellness service program rates, effective January 1, 2026. Financial assistance will continue for those who qualify, and members may update their membership online or at the front desk.

In the coming weeks, several of our centers will receive nearly new fitness equipment from the Downtown YMCA, which concluded operations on December 30. Much of this equipment represents an upgrade for our facilities, helping enhance your member experience. You may notice team members on site disassembling and delivering equipment during this time. We appreciate your patience and hope you enjoy the new additions!

At the YMCA of Metro Denver, the safety and well-being of every child, family and guest is our priority. Beginning in January 2026, we are introducing a new Spectator Pass Policy for all non-member participants and guests. This policy reflects our ongoing commitment to national best practices in child safety and aligns with standards required for Praesidium Accreditation, a leading benchmark in child abuse prevention. As a member, there is no change to your check-in/check-out procedures; however, guests of members are required to create an account, get their photo taken and sign the waiver. Watch for more details in your inbox.
