Notes from Dept Head 📝
Friend,
This is the last the Critical Zone newsletter of 2021 and the last one that will be created by Dr. Denise Moreno Ramírez. Denise is a Ph.D. graduate of our Environmental Science program who graciously served as our departmental Program Manager of Marketing and Communications over the past year. Denise’s dissertation focused on applying the techniques of community-engaged oral history and semi-structured interviews to preserve the stories of individuals working and living near two Superfund sites in Arizona.
Given Denise’s expertise in writing about the environment and the people living within it, we were fortunate to have her authoring departmental communications, including the newsletter, our website, and social media. Her stories and portraits of folks doing the work of environmental science were vibrant and enlightening. We will miss Denise’s presence in the department, but we’re glad that she’ll be just across Speedway working as a postdoctoral scientist in the College of Public Health. Thank you and good luck, Denise!
In the meantime, we’re searching for a new Program Manager, so if you are interested, or know of anyone who is, please apply here. I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and restful break and New Year. See you in 2022!
