Countdown to Fix UI Trust Fund; Impact 40-200% Tax

Chamber Day at the Capitol brought a renewed push for policymakers to finally address the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund deficit. At the State of the State address on Sunday evening, Governor Walz again called for a resolution on the UI Trust Fund deficit. We agree!
The Senate passed this bill on a bipartisan 55-11 vote back in February. Each day that House DFL leadership delays in passing this bill, the state accrues $50,000 of added debt to the federal government. That total now stands at over $12 million.  Some local businesses have seen a 200% increase in the UI tax on their business.
Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman claims the deadline to pass a UI fix is April 30, when first quarter taxes are due.
The clock is ticking to pass this bill and stop this crippling tax on businesses!

Where to Find Your Next Key Employee

If your business were a car, your key employees would be the engine. These are your superstars, the heavy hitters who apply their talents and skill sets in their positions and generate massive results every time.

As most managers already know, however, the reason why key employees are so in-demand is precisely because they don’t grow on trees. If you’re hunting for your next key employee, here is some of our best advice on where to look.  FULL STORY

Downtown Refurbish Continues

As crews pulled the street off the 100 block of N. Cedar Ave the last phase of the current streetscape project began.  This is part of a $4M project started last year by the city of Owatonna to conduct much needed underground repairs and to reshape the walkability of downtown.
The timing of the project coincides with the big hotel development.  The current streetscape project is schedule to be complete before July 20th and the hotel is scheduled to open on August 2nd.  A ribbon cutting is being planned for the opening day of GEM Days on July 21st.  More Project Information and LIve Camera.

Cultivating Leaders in Your Organization?

The Owatonna Community Leadership Academy (OCLA) is ready to take interested applications for the program.
OCLA program is designed to enable candidates to learn about Owatonna resources, values, strengths, weaknesses, and challenges.  A learning experience geared toward providing an in-dept look at eight key elements of our community; education, economic development, government, healthcare, public safety, quality of life, agri-business and culture & diversity.  This program will provide opportunities for candidates to exchange ideas, build networks and begin the process of identifying and solving important community issues.
