This year marks Cunard's 180th anniversary and we continue to lift the lid on their history to see what it is that makes Cunard so special.

From welcoming legends of the silver screen to transporting troops during WWII, Cunard's 180-year legacy is an incredible story of mechanical feats, heroic acts, extraordinary moments and historic world-firsts at sea.

Cunard's four-legged friends

Cunard ships have always carried animals. Some worked for their passage, such as Britannia’s three cats finding the ship’s vermin. More exotic travellers have included an elephant, a racoon and a monkey.

Transatlantic travellers

Dogs and cats continue to travel in style across the Atlantic on board Queen Mary 2. There are 24 kennels, lots of space to play and a dedicated owner’s lounge.

So as not to cause any homesickness, British dogs find familiarity with a lamppost taken from the Cunard building in Liverpool and dogs from the USA naturally enjoy a New York City fire hydrant!
