Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
|
As we look ahead to the new academic year, our focus will be on several key initiatives that strengthen our shared mission:
|
- Student success and retention: expanding support for students both inside and outside the classroom
- Faculty development: strengthening opportunities for professional growth, mentoring and scholarly collaboration
- Innovation in teaching and learning: promoting creative approaches that reflect the changing needs of our students
- Strategic planning: aligning our academic goals with the University’s mission and our new strategic plan.
|
These priorities build on our tradition of academic excellence and our Catholic mission, and they will require the partnership and creativity of our entire community.
|
In addition, I remind you to please join us for Faculty Convocation on September 12, 2025, at 1 p.m. As the official opening of the academic year, Convocation provides us the opportunity to come together as faculty and staff to reaffirm our commitment to Seton Hall’s mission, welcome new colleagues, celebrate newly tenured and promoted faculty, and set the tone for the year ahead. If you haven’t already, R.S.V.P. to let us know you will attend.
|
Thank you for the many ways you contribute to making Seton Hall a place where our students thrive and our faculty, administrators and staff flourish. I am grateful for your dedication and look forward to the year ahead.

New Resource: Campus Support for Students |
Thanks to the suggestion from Professor Dawn Apgar, the Dean of Students Office created an easy-to-use reference list for students to connect them to campus resources and support. Please consider using this reference in your work with students, drop into your Canvas course site or post it in your office. View the Campus Support for Students resource. Thank you for all you do for our students!

| Welcoming Our New Faculty |
Last week’s New Faculty Orientation introduced our newest faculty members to Seton Hall’s mission, academic policies, teaching resources and support services. The program also connected them with key offices and campus partners, helping to ensure they are well-prepared to begin the semester. We are grateful to the Center for Faculty Development, specifically Mary Balkun, Ph.D., and all who contributed to this important event.

| Deadline Approaching: 2025-26 Academies and Idea Hall Applications |
Apply by September 10 for seed funding to jumpstart new and innovative ideas.
|
- The Academies support faculty in developing interdisciplinary curricula, pursuing interdisciplinary scholarship, or projects that align with university goals, such as enhancing diversity and inclusion, increasing grant submissions and expanding graduate programs.
-
The Idea Hall initiative offers funding for collaborative projects with non-academic divisions (e.g., Finance and Academic Affairs; or Student Services and Athletics). By cultivating cross-divisional partnerships, this initiative hopes to promote ideas to boost student retention, optimize use of facilities, and integrate service learning into the student experience.
