White leads shorthanded Brentwood through on-field, off-field adversity and into second round
Bruins played without more than 30 players due to COVID-19 tracing

BRENTWOOD — For the Brentwood High School football team, Friday night’s playoff victory was a full-scale display of the team’s “next-man-up” mentality.

Despite an injury to senior quarterback Cade Granzow and the absence of more than 30 players due to COVID-19 protocols and procedures, the No. 7-ranked Bruins zoomed past Cane Ridge, 45-13, in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Franklin takes down top-seeded Smyrna
By Charles PulliamMultimedia Reporter

SMRYNA – The Franklin High School football team isn’t recognized as the little guy – just look at them as they get off the bus – but the Admirals embraced the underdog role and cruised into the Class 6A playoff’s second round Friday with a win at top-seeded Smyrna.

Franklin, the No. 4 seed out of Region 6-6A for the third season in a row, racked up 560 yards of offense and posted a 49-13 win, dismantling Region 5-6A champion Smyrna and holding the Bulldogs to just over 200 yards.

Nolensville opens strong to advance to 2nd round
By Doug DyerSports Writer

NOLENSVILLE – After its first two drives, Livingston Academy looked ready to give Nolensville a battle Friday night.

But the Knights had other plans, scoring on each of their first four possessions on the way to a 38-14 win in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs.

“I do think we’re playing the best football we’ve played this year,” Nolensville coach Paul Derrick said. “It’s playoff time, so that’s when you want to be doing that, and that’s exciting.”

Fairview bows out in first round to East Nashville
By Joe WilliamsSports Writer

FAIRVIEW – The Fairview High School football team's one-point loss on the road last week to Stewart County may have hastened the end of the year for Williamson County’s Class 3A banner carrier as the Yellow Jackets fell 26-13 to East Nashville in the opening round of the TSSAA state football playoffs Friday night.

“This game was a reflection of how we played last week,” said Fairview coach Chris Hughes. “We can’t lose that game last week to Stewart County and end up having to play East Nashville in the first round. These two teams are too good to play in the first round.”

Campbell leads Indy past LaVergne, into 2nd round
By Chris YowSm-TN Sports

LaVERGNE – Jaxson Campbell and the Independence High School football team's offense came into Friday night’s contest at LaVergne with something to prove. The Class 6A Mr. Football semifinalist quarterback Campbell was lethal early, throwing two touchdown passes in his first six attempts – all completions – to put his team on top as Independence defeated the Wolverines 49-14.

“We definitely had something to prove,” Campbell said. “Any time you lose a game you think you should win, we wanted to get that bad taste out of our mouths from last week.”
