| TDSB Memorializes Jeremiah Perry
The Toronto District School Board has named the gymnasium at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute after Jeremiah Perry. The 15-year-old C.W. Jefferys CI student passed away last year during a field trip to Algonquin Park.
Jeremiah’s family, together with students and staff gathered at the school for the unveiling of a memorial plaque that has been installed in the main lobby, along with a commemorative sign over the gym entrance. For more information, please read the full news release on the TDSB website.

More than 220,000 students and parents completed the census to provide a comprehensive picture of our students, their well-being and their school experiences.

| Revisions to the Board’s Bylaws [3539]
The Board approved revisions to the Board Bylaws. The revisions are based on committee’s directions, as well as staff recommendations, aligned with legislative requirements and best practices of school boards and municipalities. The revisions are highlighted using track changes.

| P042, Student Dress Code Policy: Policy Review, Phase 2, Status Update [3519]
The Board decided that: - the revised Student Dress Code Policy, Status Update, be received; and
- staff consider revisions based on committee and delegate input at the November 8, 2018 Governance and Policy Committee, and provide trustees with a copy of the revised draft Student Dress Code Policy for information, prior to public consultation, to commence no later than November 30, 2018.

| Restrictions on Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco Use Policy, New Policy, Phase 1 [3521] Trustees approved policy development work plan for the Restrictions on Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco Use Policy, Phase 1. This work is in response to the legalization of recreational use of cannabis in Canada on October 17, 2018 and the new legislative requirements as outlined in the Ontario’s Cannabis Act with regard to use, purchase, possession, cultivation and distribution of recreational cannabis in Ontario.
Amendments to the Education Act were made to include suspension, expulsion, and code of conduct changes so that cannabis continues to be prohibited at school, on school property and at school-related activities.

| Education Funding Engagement Guide 2019-2020 Consultation [3540]
The Board received the Education Funding Engagement Guide 2019-2020 Consultation report.
On November 16, 2018, the Ministry of Education (EDU) released a memo and a consultation guide containing key questions that the EDU is requesting feedback about. Due to the tight timelines and transition of the Board, effective December 3, 2018, it was decided to consult with both the current and incoming boards on the responses to the consultation guide.

| Revised Shareholder`s Direction From the Toronto District School Board to the Toronto Lands Corporation Update [3537]
Trustees approved the revised Shareholder’s Direction from the Toronto District School Board to the Toronto Lands Corporation. They also decided that at the Organizational Board meeting, the term of appointment of four trustees as Directors of the Toronto Lands Corporation, be staggered as follows: - two Trustees appointed for a one-year term ending November 14, 2019;
- two Trustees appointed for a two-year term ending November 14, 2020; and
- the terms of the current Citizen Directors, Toronto Lands Corporation remain in effect following Toronto District School Board`s approval of any amended Toronto Lands Corporation Shareholder’s Direction.
The Board also agreed to extend the term appointment of David Crombie as Chair of the Toronto Lands Corporation to December 31, 2019.

| Keep Cannabis Stores Away From Schools
On October 2017, the Chair wrote a letter to the Mayor of Toronto and the Premier of Ontario requesting that Toronto District School Board staff or trustees be consulted regarding the regulation and locations of retail or other dispensaries of medicinal marijuana dispensaries. Since then, the new Government of Ontario announced that cannabis stores could open within 150 meters of a school, but did not mention the importance of consulting with school boards on locations.
The Board decided the Chair write to the Minister of Education and the Mayor of Toronto to request that all school boards in the province be consulted on the location of cannabis stores and new municipal bylaws required regarding the locations of cannabis stores.

| Next Board Meeting
The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2018. This will be the first regular Board meeting of the 2018-2022 term.
