The University is celebrating Black History Month throughout February with a number of events, including a digital exhibit at the Hesburgh Library, a virtual book talk, a film at the Browning Cinema and more.

ND receives LEED certification on five new buildings

Five new buildings totaling 245,000 square feet received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council. Read about the gold certification for Baumer Hall (pictured above) and other certifications.

Jerome Bettis returns to Notre Dame to get his degree

This semester, Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis is completing his degree, 30 years after his final football season with the Fighting Irish. He left early for the NFL draft and was selected by the Rams in the first round. NBC's "Today" caught up with "The Bus," who intends to finish what he started.

Three faculty members named AAAS fellows 

Three professors were named American Association for the Advancement of Science fellows. The AAAS fellows are Patricia L. Clark (chemistry and biochemistry), Darcia Narvaez (psychology) and Michael Pfrender (biological sciences). Bonus: See the Narvaez story below.

Research

Research shows what can mitigate early childhood trauma

Positive childhood experiences can buffer the effects of adverse childhood experiences. That's among the findings in a new study is by Darcia Narvaez, emerita professor of psychology, and Mary Tarsha, a doctoral student in the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies.

Operations

Hammes Bookstore management changes coming soon

As announced in 2021, Barnes & Noble College (BNC) will soon operate Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore properties. Follett has managed operations since 1997. The transition begins Friday, March 4. Follett will accept bookstore orders for Apple products through Thursday, Feb. 10. Apple products will not be available for purchase through the bookstore from Feb. 12 to March 13. BNC will accept orders for Apple products beginning Monday, March 14.

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, Vivian Zhou, program assistant at the University's Beijing Global Gateway, painted this special piece of art for the Notre Dame community. It is the beginning of the Year of the Tiger.

National blood crisis declared, blood donors needed

In recent weeks, the American Red Cross has had less than a one-day supply of critical blood — well below the ideal five-day supply. It's the worst national blood crisis in decades. You can donate blood at a local drive. There are some coming up on campus.
