Winter Intensives: “Walking the Walk” of Pluralism
Next month, Hebrew College rabbinical students will participate in their annual Winter Intensives, a powerful week of exploration, connection, and growth, providing a context for meaningful interreligious engagement in their future careers. Developed and hosted by Hebrew College’s Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership, the intensives are planned to build interreligious understanding as students move through the ordination program. First year students will participate in “From Diversity to Pluralism”, designed to cultivate an ethos of dignified engagement across religious traditions. Intensives for subsequent classes will provide a deep dive into Christianity, Islam, or Buddhism while fostering the ethic of religious pluralism that guides the Miller Center’s work.

Planting the Seeds of Potential
By Rabbi Heather Renetzky `24, Director of Congregational Engagement, Mount Zion Temple in St. Paul, MN
By seeing Deborah’s potential, we give her room to grow as a character. Her story expands and her legacy deepens. Our ability to see potential in not just a character, but in another person, matters. It matters beyond the parchment of our Torah and beyond the context of our tradition. We know this to be a scientifically proven fact. When we fail to see a person’s potential, they fail to live up to their potential. A 2005 study about the influence of stereotypes on academic performance, engagement, and self-concept demonstrated that when people are treated as unfriendly, they are more likely to act unfriendly. When people are told that they are intellectually inferior, they are more likely to doubt their intelligence and to keep their thoughts to themselves.

Hillel International Comes to Hebrew College
Hillel International’s Global Assembly was held in Boston this year, and Hebrew College was honored to host a session on our shared campus on Tuesday, Dec. 10 with over 100 attendees. We were especially grateful to welcome back so many amazing alumni to our building (pictured above with current students). Thank you for all the work you do for the Jewish community!
“It was an honor and a joy to welcome professionals from the Hillel International Global Assembly to our Beit Midrash and our shared campus this week," said President Anisfeld. "After joining together with our Rabbinical School community for a song-filled and soulful morning prayer service, participants enjoyed two historic panels on visions for rabbinic education and the role of rabbis in Hillel. We are energized and excited to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration and innovation in recruiting and preparing rabbis for the vitally important work of nurturing Jewish life on campus.”
