As a kind reminder, the Town of Carbondale has an ordinance to help preserve the view of the night sky. Residential outdoor lights are restricted in brightness and must be pointed down with a limited light arc. While the HOA does not regulate what time of the day exterior lighting should be turned off, many in the community have their lighting set on a timer so that lights are not on overnight, which also helps preserve the night sky.
We ask that homeowners please check their exterior lighting to make sure that it is dark sky compliant.
The Sopris Sun recently ran an article about dark sky in the valley: Reveling in our Dark Sky.

Crystal River Restoration Update |
The project team for the Crystal Restoration Project has been consulting with the regulatory agencies on the project, (US Fish and Wildlife, Colorado Parks & Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources) for a review of the work schedule. Construction has not started and will not start until these consultations come up with recommendations to follow.
We invite you to read through the white paper for more information. The project team is working through selecting an appropriate start date to meet the compressed construction timeline and avoid impact to bird and animal species in Riverfront Park and will share this information when available.

Summer is here, and once again, we are all ready for farm-fresh produce and fruit. It's tempting to over purchase when we see those mouthwatering tomatoes, corn, peppers, and melons. But food waste is a huge problem, and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture estimates that over 1/3 of the fruits and vegetables we buy are thrown away. Reasons vary but include buying food your family won't eat, not eating leftovers, and overestimating how much food you need. A recent study shows that the produce and fruit most likely to be wasted are, in order: lettuce, bananas, apples, avocados, and carrots. So be mindful of what you buy, how much you need, and what your family will eat.
