Christmas Tree Chipping Moved to Brannon Gearhart Park

The Parks Department is accepting Christmas trees for chipping again this year, but trees need to be dropped off at Brannon Gearhart Park instead of the Equestrian Center due to construction at Dakota Lodge. Brannon Gearhart Park is located just east of Valley Parkway between Mahonia and Buckthorn (see Google Map). Simply drop off your tree in the designated area (there is a sign) anytime between now and Jan. 17. Please be sure to remove any non-coniferous items such as metallic materials and tinsel before bringing your trees, as many materials can damage the chipping equipment. The mulch will be applied at the base of trees and shrubs in parks and greenbelts.

Don’t Forget to Sign Up if You Want Optional Trash and Recycling Totes

Starting in 2016, residents will have the option of continuing to use their own trash and recycling containers (either trash cans or bags) or of using 96-gallon totes provided at no charge by Waste Connections. The totes have wheels and are 42 inches tall, the top measures 30x34 inches, and the bottom is 24x24 inches. Trash and recycling service will be weekly as it is now. If you prefer to use the totes, send an email to kencarylco@wasteconnections.com or call the Ranch House at 303-979-1876. In the email or phone message, say that you want to sign up for totes and provide your name, address, email address and phone number. You can request both trash and recycling totes, just a trash tote, or just a recycling tote. Waste Connections will deliver totes to your home in January. If you want to continue using your own containers, you do not need to do anything. Your service will continue as is.

Mom & Son Night Out

Mothers, grandmothers, and their son(s) can join us for an evening filled with fun games and exciting team challenges. Dinner will be served! Register for Course No. 31566 online or by calling 303-979-4070.

Christmas Pony Rides at the Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center

Sign up for a Christmas pony ride at the Ken-Caryl Equestrian Center! The rides are for ages 3 to 100 (you’re never too old for a pony ride), and the cost is $20 payable with cash or check at the time of the ride. This special event will only take place Friday, Dec. 18, Monday, Dec. 21, Tuesday, Dec. 22, and Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call the Equestrian Center at 303-972-8456 or 303-979-4500 or email eqschool@kcranch.org. The pony ride will be conducted by one of our experienced camp or riding school instructors, but we do ask an adult to walk alongside young children to help them keep their balance. Don’t forget your cameras! The rides last about 15 minutes, but your family is welcome to stick around to meet our other horses and watch our students ride. Children and parents must wear boots or lace-up shoes. No slip-ons, flip flops, or open-toed shoes allowed. You are encouraged to bring your own toddler-sized bike helmet for children under 5.

Proxy Forms Mailed or Emailed to Property Owners

Each property owner on Ken-Caryl Ranch should have received a proxy slip either in the mail or via email. The proxies serve to establish quorum (simple majority) at the Annual Meeting on March 1. Residents need to sign and return their proxy slip because 2,467 signed proxies are needed to hold the Annual Meeting. You can also download a Proxy Form and email it to annettec@kcranch.org, fax it to 303-972-1272, drop it off at the Ranch House or mail it to KCRMA, 7676 S. Continental Divide Road, Littleton, CO 80127. A copy of the proxy form is also available at the Ranch House. The Master Association will have a drawing for one free month of dues. To be entered into the drawing, just return your proxy prior to the Annual Meeting on March 1.

Trash Delay Phone Notifications

Waste Connections offers an auto-dial service to notify customers of any delays or changes in trash pickup days. If you are interested in being notified through this service, you can sign up online at www.wcdenver.com/contact/. Complete the required information, click on Residential Trash Service, then in the comment section at the bottom of the page explain that you are a Ken-Caryl resident seeking to sign up for the Call Fire service. You can also sign up by sending an email to kencarylco@wasteconnections.com and asking to sign up for the Call Fire service. In the email, provide your name, phone number, trash day and address.

Reminder to Shovel Sidewalks

Shoveling sidewalks and passageways on all sides of houses is the responsibility of residents. Please be sure that these areas are cleared for the safety of children walking to and from school, firefighters, trash collectors, postal carriers and others who must use these routes. Please also make sure fire hydrants are clearly visible and accessible at all times.

Art Classes for Adults

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District will offer several art classes for adults in 2016, including Acrylic Painting, Drawing Basics and Watercolor Painting. See the Art & Enrichment Classes page for details.

Give the Gift of Dirt

Need a unique gift idea for a family member or friend? How about the gift of gardening? This is truly a gift that “keeps giving” as fresh, organic fruits and vegetables will be available throughout the summer. The Ken-Caryl Community Garden has a few plots still available for the 2016 growing season. The cost of a large plot is $150 (includes a $50 refundable deposit) or $125 for a small plot (includes a $50 refundable deposit). We will put together a gift with a certificate for the plot, a pair of gardening gloves and some dirt! Please contact harrietcamp@comcast.net for more information or to order your gift.
